The Allen home is a 5,363 square foot custom single family residence overlooking Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. The site for the two-story residence posed challenging restrictions for the height of the building envelope; Boxwood’s design solution nestles the structure into the hillside, helping to reduce the scale of the large home. Arranged around a linear hall, five pavilions define individual spaces within the structure. The modulation of the pavilions creates a windward patio for warm days, and a more private, leeward patio for cooler days. Columns were used to organize the spaces and provide a three pavilion living space on the view side of the house. Limestone, granite, and wood are used throughout the interior of the home, with concrete, stucco, wood, and metal roofing and trim completing the exterior.
