SNOQUALMIE VALLEY EYECARE
SNOQUALMIE RIDGE, WASHINGTON
To achieve the goal the designers chose to look ‘through’ the banal qualities of the retail center, as if it were transparent, to celebrate the identity of the eye clinic. The clinic is comprised of two main elements; a “box”, which houses all of the clinic’s secondary functions, and a large white “plane”, which separates the exam room and office from the retail space. Stenciled on the large white “plane” are super sized black Snellen eye chart letters. At night the translucent pieces of the “box” glow, and the light-washed eye chart radiates with such intensity that the exterior dissolves away.
SAINT CLARE HOSPITAL MULTI-SPECIALTY CLINIC
Boxwood’s design for a new medical office building in Lakewood combines simple and efficient concrete tilt up panels with large glazed areas to create an inviting facility for outpatient care. From the exterior stream that runs along the window wall to the slate and bamboo materials used on the walls and floors, the atmosphere is both professional and relaxed. Contained within the clinic is rehab therapy, diagnostic imaging, oncology and allergy clinics. Additional tenant spaces are currently available and the building can be expanded to include a third floor.
EGRARI PLASTIC SURGERY CENTER
Dr. Egrari’s goal was to create a high end plastic surgery center that would have no equal in the Puget Sound region. Elegant furnishings and appointments augmented by dramatic lighting and colors give this center a warmth but professional quality. From the spa to the exam rooms and surgery facilities every space puts the patient at ease visually while professional staff cater to their every need. Privacy is of the utmost importance. A separate entrance for surgical patients allows them to park in the covered garage and take a private elevator to the second floor where they arrive in a separate waiting room. Boxwood increased the size of the building to accommodate this initial phase. A master plan has been completed that will add an operatory as well as increase the size of the spa and staff areas.

NORTHGATE, SEATTLE, WASHINGTON
Commercial Builders Association – Merit Award
Boxwood’s innovative design for this facility remodel called for the removal of all materials from the existing structure except the rear bearing wall, columns, beams, and trusses. The exterior walls were reconfigured to add richness and depth to the building; wood siding was replaced with concrete and slate to provide a sense of permanence and stability. In addition, natural cedar, aluminum, and etched glass details enhance the updated design. Extensive glazing and skylights were provided to allow natural lighting within the interior spaces, while the lobby windows have a special sandblasted pattern to screen the parking lot from view. Materials used on the building’s exterior are repeated throughout the interior to create a non-clinical, comfortable atmosphere for patients and staff. The project includes five operatories, a complete lab, a private dentist’s office, and a staff lounge.
